Love and Support for Christchurch

We understand that this is a very difficult time for much of our community, and our hearts break for Christchurch, New Zealand, and the world. We want to provide as much opportunity to be together and support each other and our community as possible.

On Saturday, March 16, Kia Ora DC Kiwis joined together at The Kiwi Pie Shop in Alexandria, VA. NPR shared this beautiful piece on their All Things Considered podcast of our group singing the New Zealand National Anthem and sharing some thoughts on this terrible event.

During this afternoon of unity, the local New Zealand and Samoan communities raised $500 as an offering to the families affected by the tragedies in Christchurch. Kia Ora DC Kiwis will match this donation and send a cheque for $1000 to the New Zealand Islamic Information Center, who have been fundraising to assist the victims and families affected by the Christchurch attack. All proceeds managed by the NZIIC will go towards helping with their immediate, short-term needs.

Members of our community are reaching out to the local Muslim community to offer support and will update our members if an event is scheduled to pay respects.
